Presently my roommates are insisting I purchase a "wireless Ethernet extender" (I think they mean Wi-Fi Extender, to my knowledge "wireless Ethernet" is an oxymoron) that I can just plug into the wall by my tower. While my PC can access Wi-Fi, I've had issues with the connection being cut just by sitting between the router and PC or closing my door, and now that it's further away there are even more obstacles between. My roommates also claim the old setup was "unsightly" and insisted I use the long cable only as a temporary solution. However, I recently moved to a new apartment, where the working wall socket for our router is even further away from my computer, to the point where the 50 foot cable barely reaches if I snake it around corners (it would need about another 15 feet to run it up the walls), and is a bit of a tripping hazard running out of my room. (I didn't need all of the space, most of it was used running the cable over doors and I still ended up with 10-15 feet of slack.) In my last apartment I used a 50-foot Ethernet cable in order to connect my gaming PC from my room to the router. u/RoweDent created this awesome resource on network theory u/tht1kidd_ has created a suggestion post regarding information everyone needs to provide when asking a question about their network There have been some excellent guides written in this sub, and we're always looking for more!
